Dr. Ateek enunciates a contradictory position, on the one hand advocating for the application of international law but, on the other hand, preaching resistance to Israel’s occupation. Since the occupation is lawful — Israel having acquired jurisdiction defending against military aggression by unlawful occupiers Egypt and Jordan — resistance to it is unlawful. Residents of Judea and Samaria must accept limitations on their freedom that are consistent with the security exceptions to the Geneva Convention (Protection of Civilian Persons, Pt.III, S.III, Articles 64 – 78.
Complainants have recourse to the judicial system which has ruled in their favor when the law supported their position, but they must not take action outside of the judicial system. Too frequently, they do.
Arab Palestinians agreed in 1993 at Oslo to negotiate for territory but have no right to it.
